I have the honour to enclose a copy of
despatch No. 63 of the 7th May, 1936, from His
Majesty's Consul General at Canton, transmitting
copies of all the documents filed in connection
with the registration of the Hongkong and Swatow
Commercial Bank Limited, and suggesting that the
question of withdrawal of protection from the
company in accordance with the terms of section
221 (2) of the China Order in Council 1925 should
be referred to you for your directions.

I have consulted the Acting Commercial
Secretary and Acting Trade Commissioner in Hongkong,
who concurs with His Majesty's Consul-General at
Canton in considering that there is no reason why
protection should be afforded to this company.
have the honour accordingly to recommend that
British protection be withdrawn from the company,
